For each project, being greenfield or brownfield, the design will be the first step for the plant construction and that requires the engineering of different parts like process, equipment, piping, electrical, instruments, civil and structure. Hence the design will be developed in following stages: Feasibility Study, The Basic Engineering, The FEED (Front End Engineering Design), and finally The Detail Engineering.
